We experience foreign elements differently No one thing is necessarily a foreign element for everyone. Change, Bridges states, is situational. It refers to the person or thing that’s new or different, such as new tools, new rules, a new project, a new location, a new process, or a new team leader. Change, in other words, is external. What’s internal – that is, what people experience – is transition, which he describes as the psychological process that people must go through to come to terms with the change.
