Admittedly, this particular approach involves certain liabilities. The history would probably become more technical, the craft more specialised; we would never recapture the general reading public. Moreover, historians and archivists negotiating for access to company records would be handicapped. At present, by stressing the personal element in business history they can appeal to the ego of the businessman and his family. By contrast, history written in organisational terms would probably be less interesting to many of the private and corporate benefactors who have supplied business historians with their manuscripts and with much of their financial support.

Richard Wohl pointed out that: 'The chief problem of business history ... " But alas, the call to action was completely ignored. This set the stage for another conference. In 1961, the business historians again gathered on the banks of the Charles River. " Summarising the results of this latest get-together, Arthur M.
